I am quite dismayed to read the bad news about your health. This happening at the point of your life, when you should be carefree and enjoying a well-earned retirement is really unfair, but I join all our friends in praying that you will regain good health with the latest treatments and the expertise available today. Do keep us informed on your progress. Nelly Koe

We were looking forward to seeing you in the UK. Your news has distressed us. I am glad you have had advice from Yew Oo, and you can be sure that we shall be praying for you. You know you are not alone. Many people who are fond of you will be on your side. Please let us know if you think we can be of any help. May God grant you plentiful blessings. You know that we share our schoolmates' feelings. We are all behind you, and hope for a full recovery. I am probably the last one - and very late - to send you birthday greetings. Anyway the feeling is no less warm. Thanks for the photos of you and family. What a joyous time it must have been. I hope to see you later this year. All the best. Dennis Lee & Chee Hung.

It's really sad to receive this email from you so soon after your earlier email announcing your planned change of pace in life. But as you are and we are sure will continue the absolute best in medical care. And with your great spirit, strong faith and loving family, we know you will have the very best chance of healing and recovery. This weekend’s celebration with your entire family will add to your strength as you feel the warmth of their love. Our fondest thoughts  Tan Liok Ee and Yew Fai

I am sorry that you are diagnosed with lymphoma ulcer, but on second thought I believe that it could be a blessing in disguise. I am strongly convinced that goodness will only result in goodness. This is the teaching of the greatest teachers of all the world known religions, and all the greatest teachers cannot be wrong. You are such a good person, and I am sure only goodness will return to you. I want to tell you in all seriousness, that your illness can be cured, and more significantly I can help you to cure your illness. I have helped many people overcome so-called incurable diseases, including cancer where their specialist doctors told them they had only a certain more time to live. In fact I was awarded Qigong Master of the Year in 1997 at the Second World Qigong Conference in San Francisco because of my work on helping many people overcome cancer. May God bless you and Nancy. My best wishes for your speedy recovery. I look forward to your organizing the coming Old Free Reunion and the expected fun. Wong Kiew Kit.

It is good that you found out about your gastric lymphoma. While I am no doctor there is much hope in early discovery and treatment. Rest and take care of yourself now as you have done for so many grateful people being the bringer of life. I will pray for easy and comfortable passage to overcome this sudden test of faith, and, I am sure, all your love ones and friends, and those you gave life to have you in their hearts. Get well soon and will see you at our October get together. Ong ChongHye

It is indeed sad to learn of your health problems but encouraging to know that it's caught at such an early stage and, therefore, can be cured. Happy Father's Day and many more to come .Mmay you & Nancy be well & happy always, and also your whole family. Trudy Lim

sorry & sad to hear about the condition ... no matter what ... or how serious it is.... Yeah...believing that you will be healed ...Yes ... you have been healed...Have a Great Fathers Day with your family.... RAJ Seela & JC

Our heartfelt best wishes for a speedy recovery in your hour of need! Have Faith, be strong .....and you will overcome . Take care; sincerely, Leong Wai Hoong

You are not only a good man, a helpful man but a dedicated professional. More than all that you are a God-fearing man and thus understand better than most of us the realities of life. Not having any of your great qualities, all I can say is have FAITH and God will shower HIS blessings on you in HIS own way. The important thing is be cheerful, fight the illness all the way, laugh with your family and friends and see how you recover over time. I would even suggest that you consider Sifu Wong’s offer of help. The mysteries of life are yet to be fully understood and so why not try him, since western medicine may not offer the full cures that so many of us expect. believe that in all things, our own trust and faith will help us overcome our setbacks. Ultimately, for you it should be a question of FAITH and TRUST in HIM. My warm greetings to Nancy, and all your children. You will recover; I know that. Be happy. Cheers JC Rao

Whilst dismayed to hear of your recent health alarm, I am sure that your positive outlook would go a long way towards overcoming this current adversity, coupled with the excellent medical attention which I’m sure you’d receive. My very best wishes towards a recovery. Cheers, Yap Sew Yoon

Sorry to hear about your ailment. I am sure with your tenacity and determination your will overcome this set back. We have in our midst one of the best Oncologists in the region. Yew Oo I am sure will be more than glad to advice and help. Keep your chin up. Will pray for your quick full recover . Regards, Jammal Essa

This is not the moment to panic. Unnecessary worries and stress may compound one's medical problem. I have come across the book of a certain Dr. Tom Wu who cured himself of lung cancer. Dr. Wu suggested to refrain from taking sugar and carry out daily exercises (to increase the supply of oxygen to the cells in our body).Dr. Wu also suggested that we drink a glass of "smoothies" first thing in the morning before any food to detoxify our system. His main ingredients for the smoothies include a green apple (skin and seed as well), carrot, beet root (without skin), tomato and pomegranate (without skin), (mostly fruits or vegetable containing high anti-oxidant products). A special blender is required to blend the mixture (add a bit of clean water as well) into a smooth drink. Even Nancy and the whole family can enjoy the drink for good health. Wishing you all the best and a complete and speedy recovery. Ang Teng Chye

Wanted to wish you 'Happy Father's Day' and a beautiful celebration with your loved ones. Praying and trusting God together with you for your healing. You have been a blessing to many. May this be a precious time with your Father as He draws you aside to get your full attention to bless you even more.YuenChoyLeng

Regret to hear of your lymphoma ulcer. The Lord is the Healer. Trust in Him and He will honour. Happy Fathers' Day. Ooi Liang Chye

SKee, surprised and sad to know about your condition. Have faith and trust in the Lord, our God because you had been an obedient and faithful child to Him. I will remember you in my prayers. Enjoy your Fathers' Day with  your family. May God bless your health mightily. Koay Gee Beng

Take care brother... .take deep breaths, Take leisurely long walks , keep smiling and writing poems... all the best. Anwar Fazal

Ours has been a friend born, grown and cherished since 1955 - from Std 4E (if I remember correctly). A friendship that has spanned 60 years of our life. Am shocked and dismayed by your latest email and can and will only pray that you would triumph over this latest challenge with the Lord’s help and blessings. Will remember you always in my prayers. Jimmy Yeoh Lim Poh Chye

Am no medico but ... well wishes from Agnes & I on your path to full recovery. Prof Tan Yew Oo was consulted by our daughter-in-law just about 8 mths ago with lymphoma of something, detected in the early stages. He has been her angel. She's fully recovered. Hallelujah! No Christians ourselves but no harm done saying a prayer for you every so often. God bless & keep staying on positively. You will be alright SKee, I just know. Stay focused & allow the healer to come to you. Chew Ming Lip

Very sad to hear this news, but note with some relief that there are a number of positive aspects to such devastating piece of news. Our thoughts are with you and Nancy as, with God’s help, this situation is managed. Let us know if there is any way we can be of some help. Guan Teik and Jennie

Get well. You know what you need to do. Divine providence helps.Keep your good cheer and spirit. You have been an inspiration to many. Wishing you a quick recovery, better health and the fortitude to go through the recommended therapy. God bless. Happy Father's Day ! Harris Beh

I am quite shock to learn that you have been diagnosed with lymphoma ulcer when you have been very healthy all your life. With your positive mind and positive attitude, many obstacles in life can be overcome. Our thoughts are always with you and we wish you a speedy recovery. Goh Kim Kheng

Sorry to hear about your stomach ulcer. We will pray for complete and quick recovery. Have faith in the Lord, our great healer and compassionate God. Warm regards. Kung Beng Hong

Sorry to hear of the lymphoma. Fortunately from your description you have caught it early and from the scans, I gather there are no other growths. With the new (to me ) chemo and the anti body therapies, prognosis is good as I can attest. Yew Oo would certainly enlighten you more. I note that you have made life changing shifts lately eg cutting down on your work which you love, hence a major letting go and changing course to other worthwhile activities eg organising reunions and writing snap shots of your life. Having a malignancy (no other way to describe it), is another challenge to deal with and another major life changing event. Having started the course of change, I am confident that mentally you will be able to negotiate the course ahead (albeit the initial shock, urgency and confusion). It is a course many of us will have to take. There are no words of comfort that are adequate but to point out the realisation that you have the fortitude and bravery. Fortis Atque Fidelis. Prayers also can comfort and fortify. Take a break over here when you can. Please convey my greetings to Nancy too in this moment of stress. Yeoh Oon Hock

I know you will overcome all physical problems. All of us have some ailment or other. the thing is to maximize your will and use all medical help available. all the best. Nirmala Devi

Sad to hear the bad news and wishing you a speedy recovery. What we learn is never take things for granted and to appreciate and enjoy life, and thank all the little mercies. Again wishing you a speedy recovery and continue with all your postings to keep us informed about progress. Teh Tiong Sa

Sorry to hear this not so good news, but with all the modern and latest medical care and your positive attitude I'm sure you will overcome it. And we shall be meeting in our reunions again and again. No worry, be happy! Stephen Tho (On Leong)

So sorry to know about your health situation. Hope and pray for your recovery. Your early diagnosis will mean better chance of full recovery to your jovial self which is your trademark. Take good care bro. Hope to be able to meet you at our frees function soon. Warmest regards to your family. Ahmad Kamari n family

Sorry to hear about your gastric predicament. My best wishes to you for a full recovery with Chemotherapy. My eldest son, Anthony is a upper G.I. Surgeon and works at The Chinese University of Hong Kong & he is doing EUS & ESD for gastric tumours. I shall ask him to see of any other things can be done through the endoscope. Timothy Teoh Sim Chuan

I am sorry to learn of your unfortunate diagnosis. I shall keep you in my prayers for a successful recovery. Regards, Elsie Dunn (Wong)

Both SW and I are so sorry to hear of what you have to go through at this stage of your life. I am sure it is not easy for you, Nancy & the rest of the family... esp at this time when you want to wind down and fulfill some of your dreams and desires of your heart. Now you have to put them on hold as you have something some important and urgent to attend to. But Praise God however that you are in good medical hands! And the support, prayers, well wishes and words of concern & comfort that you get from friends and relatives near and far are certainly encouraging and uplifting for your soul and spirit. Above all may God Almighty sustain and carry you and Nancy and the whole family through at this crucial time. Our prayers are with you and family. Life indeed is mysterious & beyond us and who can explain the things that hit us? We can only hang on to Him and believe that in Him all things are possible according to His Holy will. Truly may God grant you the desires of your heart to be healed by divine providence through medical means. May Psalm 23 be your daily portion each new day as you go through the treatment with His presence enfolding you. May I leave you with the words of Scripture - "Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them" Psalm 34 The Lord blesses you and keeps you; the Lord makes his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift his countenance upon you and give you peace.TanSuanGuat &SiewWoh

Interesting. Was led to pray for you early this morning. Thanks for update. Had asked God to give you wisdom on the kind of medical treatment to receive while depending on Him for healing. That's the bottom line, isn't. The Lord our Healer. Will be praying. Have a nourishing respite and keep trusting our Healer. Blessings, Yuen Choy Leng

I am so sorry to hear about your illness. In this day and age, it is only a setback. At times like these it is wonderful to be surrounded by friends and family. I have been reading all the e-mails flowing from friends and they warm the heart. A positive attitude will certainly help in the healing process. I know what you are going through with the chemotherapy sessions. Quite a few years ago I looked after one of my students for a year while he was undergoing chemotherapy for Hodgkin’s lymphoma. We are still very good friends and see each other whenever we can. In the meantime you and Nancy enjoy your grandchild. I LOVE being a grandmother. Unfortunately you need be careful to not pick up any childhood illness. Thinking of you. LimWan Cheng

Happy to hear you are responding well to the treatment. Not surprised to hear nancy is treating you like a king :) Dropping hair is a minor problem. I am told that if you give your scalp a good shave you will get an even better crop than before the dropping started. Bald men can be good looking and v healthy. Ha ha! Take care, rest well and continue to keep your good friends informed of your steady progress. Warmest regards, Liokee n Yewfai

Get well soon, You will always be blessed. JC Rao

Hi! Whenever I receive your letters, I get that Free School fraternity feeling. I hope this sms will do the same and give you cheer and confidence. If you have not taken Kiew Kit’s qigong, try to do mild and slow, very slow and strengthless. This is going to be like tai chi. It is more lifting and not really swinging. Remember no strength. Hope you will enjoy this. Lim Chai Keat

So you have an affliction. God’s will be done. Many people with afflictions were cured by Jesus. In most cases, he merely said “thy sins are forgiven thee,” and they were cured. This implication is that afflictions and sins are connected. Have you pondered what sins you have committed. Perhaps unknowingly until reflected upon But then an affliction may actually be a sign of God’s mercy. Afflictions need not be seen as God’s punishment for our sins. Rather it may be his way of taking away our sins. I too have suffered a severe affliction for a few years. Often most unbearable, I thank God for having “punished” me. Wan Abu Bakar, KL
